(she/her)
As with so many dog trainers, I started out by training my own dogs. After sticking around long enough as a client, I was offered a role as a trainer, which I took initially as a grad school gig but led to finding my calling helping dogs and their people communicate better. I am dedicated to evidence based behavior change and building a stronger trust relationship between dogs and their humans and helping humans better understand dog behavior. My favorite training areas are cooperative care and working through anxiety, and my favorite dog sport is rally obedience. My dream weekends include running and hiking with my dogs and husband, Tyler.
Mr. Tumnus is an exceptionally smart dog who enjoys tricks and rally obedience. His favorite treats are fruit based, and on a weekend he likes to go running or hiking! His best friend is Luna, but he also loves his sister, Lucy, and makes friends with other dogs very easily. It is his curly tail that lends us the name Springtail!
Lucy is our queen bee. She is sweet, tries hard, but isn't necessarily the most biddable dog on the planet. She succeeds at home life and exemplifies the type of purely pet dog relationship that many people dream of. Her best friend is Mr. Tumnus, and her dream weekend activities include hiking, sleeping, and yelling at squirrels.
Values Statement:
I believe in cooperative and collaborative methods of living and working with others. If you have ever felt like you were asked to do something that did not feel right in a dog training setting, I would encourage you to follow that instinct and find a new trainer who matches your needs. To these animals we are the entire world, and we hold the vast majority of control for how they exist in the world, when they eat, when they pee, what medical care they get. We have a responsibility as people to treat them with kindness and take into account what they need and want from life and from relationships with us.
Dog training is an unregulated industry. This has led to abuse in the name of training dogs, which is unacceptable. For this reason I am in support of legislation that regulates and licenses dog trainers. I am confident that my training methods would meet and exceed ethical and moral standards, and that all dog trainers, all people, have a moral obligation to try to be better for the animals we are caring for.
This business is and will always stand for human rights, all of them.
